The 52nd Rolex Fastnet Race will finish at Cherbourg-en-Cotentin from 22 to 30 July 2027, with organisers confirming the Normandy port will host the world's largest offshore sailing event once again.
The Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) and local stakeholders announced the dates as the countdown reached 300 days. More than 400 yachts and nearly 4,000 crew from 30 nations are expected to compete on the 695-nautical-mile course from Cowes, rounding the Fastnet Rock before finishing in the Cotentin.
The decision follows the 2025 centenary edition, which organisers said drew the largest offshore racing fleet in the race's history. Cherbourg-based skipper Alexis Loison claimed overall IRC victory in that race aboard the JPK 1050 *Léon*, partnered by Jean-Pierre Kelbert.
The 2025 finish drew more than 130,000 visitors to the Plage Verte race village over nine days, with 330 free events including concerts, water sports workshops and open jetty access.
Manuela Mahier, President of the Rolex Fastnet Race Finish Association, said the 2027 roadmap focuses on technical support at Chantereyne Harbour and maintaining a popular maritime festival accessible to the general public.
RORC Commodore Deb Fish described Cherbourg-en-Cotentin as having become "a very special part" of the international sailing community. "The welcome we receive here is exceptional, both on the water and ashore, and the enthusiasm of the people of Cherbourg makes the finish a highlight for sailors and spectators alike."
The main fleet will depart Cowes on Saturday 24 July 2027.
