Fact-Checking and Verification Policy

Accuracy is central to everything GoBoating.nz publishes. This policy sets out how we verify information before it is published.

Sourcing standards

We only publish factual claims, statistics, technical specifications, and results that have been sourced from material explicitly provided or gathered by our editorial team, such as official race results and event data, direct interviews and correspondence, manufacturer and organisation-supplied specifications, and confirmed press releases and statements.

We do not add information from general background knowledge or assumption where it has not been explicitly supplied or verified.

Quotes

All quotes published on GoBoating.nz are checked against the original source, whether a recording, transcript, written statement, or direct correspondence, before publication. Quotes are not altered in a way that changes their meaning.

Technical and safety-related content

Given the nature of boating content, particular care is taken with information that has safety implications, including navigational information, weather and sea condition reporting, vessel specifications and load ratings, and safety equipment and regulatory requirements. Where there is any doubt about the accuracy of safety-related content, we seek confirmation from a qualified source before publication, or we clearly flag the limitation to readers.

Results and race coverage

Race results, rankings, and competition outcomes are checked against official sources, such as event organisers, regulatory bodies, or official scoring systems, before being reported as final.

When verification is not possible

Where a claim cannot be independently verified, we either do not publish it, or we clearly attribute it to its source and indicate that it is unverified.
