Ethics Policy
GoBoating.nz holds its journalists, editors, and contributors to clear ethical standards. This policy sets out the principles that guide our conduct.
Independence and conflicts of interest
Our editorial team must disclose any personal, financial, or professional interest that could reasonably be seen to influence their coverage of a subject, including sponsorship of events they cover, ownership or part-ownership of boats or businesses featured, and close personal relationships with subjects of a story. Where a genuine conflict exists, coverage is reassigned or the conflict is disclosed to readers.
Gifts, hospitality, and travel
Contributors may accept reasonable hospitality directly related to covering an event, such as event access, transport to a race, or accommodation at a boat show, where this is standard practice for covering that kind of event. Such arrangements do not influence editorial judgement, and where relevant, are disclosed to readers.
Advertising and editorial separation
Advertising, sponsorship, and commercial partnerships never determine editorial content or coverage decisions. Sponsored or commercial content is always clearly labelled and separated from independent editorial content, as set out in our Advertising and Sponsored Content Policy.
Honesty in reporting
Our contributors do not fabricate quotes, details, or events. They do not misrepresent themselves when gathering information. They accurately represent the views of people and organisations they report on.
Respect and fairness
We treat the people we write about, and the people we write for, with respect. We aim to be fair, particularly to those who may not have the means to publicly respond to coverage that affects them.
Reporting concerns
Anyone who believes GoBoating.nz or its contributors have breached this Ethics Policy can raise the matter via orienta.maris@goboating.nz
