Key West locks in world championship home through 2031

Race World Offshore has signed a five year agreement with the City of Key West, securing the Key West World Championship Power Boat Races there annually through 2031.

Race World Offshore (RWO) has signed a five year agreement with the City of Key West to produce the Key West World Championship Power Boat Races annually through 2031.

"We're grateful to the City of Key West and the U.S. Navy for their continued good faith efforts," said Larry Bleil, manager of Race World Offshore. "Key West is the home of offshore powerboat racing, and this agreement ensures the world championships stay where they belong for years to come."

The Navy reference isn't incidental. RWO's races depend on the Outer Mole area at Naval Air Station Key West, used as the event's wet pits and main spectator zone, and Navy cooperation has long been a practical requirement for the event to run at all.

What race week brings

Key West race week runs nine days of competition and fan events each November. Race Village returns to Truman Waterfront Park, with a Sunday Boat Parade down Duval Street, a Thursday night Greene Street Party for Charity, and a Friday night Duval Street block party rounding out the programme.

Key West already carries extra weight under the UIM licensing agreement confirmed in April. It's the only event on RWO's calendar where the World Championships count as two rounds toward the UIM's four event minimum, making it the title-deciding finale for the UIM Offshore Class 1, UIM Offshore Class 2 and APBA Super Cat World Championships.

The Key West agreement gives RWO long-term certainty around the most important stop on its calendar. Its UIM licensing rights extend through the 2031 season, and the new city deal now points toward a similar horizon for the championship's Key West home.
