Lake Neuchâtel delivered a fitting finale to the SSL Gold Cup African and Oceanian Qualifiers, with qualification for the SSL Gold Cup Finals Brasil 2026 still very much up for grabs heading into the last two races.
Morocco started the day already on the back foot, handed a one-point penalty for failing to submit their crew list on time. An administrative slip that would loom large as the pressure mounted.
Race 5 set the tone immediately. Tahiti Black Pearls went on the attack from the gun, pushing Seychelles Vann Swet over the line early. Mozambique Gala-Gala also jumped the start at the committee boat end and were judged OCS, then kept sailing rather than turning back to restart. It was their second disqualification of the series and ended any realistic hope of making the Finals.
Tahiti locked into a commanding lead. Morocco briefly lost focus mid-race, mistaking an umpire's black flag signal directed at Mozambique for a penalty against themselves, and that hesitation cost them. Tahiti had already rounded the windward mark more than 30 seconds clear and cruised home to victory, signing off with their trademark 'Proa Paddle' celebration. Morocco recovered to second, Seychelles third.
That win put Tahiti on 22 points and sealed their place in Brazil. Seychelles sat on 18, Morocco on 12, with eight points still available in the final race. The Atlas Lions' qualification hopes were alive, just barely.
Race 6 started badly for Morocco. Going aggressively for the pin, they crossed early and had to loop back while the rest of the fleet sailed away.
A left shift favoured Tahiti, who came out leading comfortably. Mozambique Gala-Gala, showing the form that had been missing all series, rounded the windward mark second, with Morocco having clawed back to third ahead of Seychelles. Tactician Teiki Hacheche kept the Black Pearls clean downwind, reading the breeze carefully as Mozambique pressed hard on their tail.
Positions held through the final lap. Tahiti won again, Mozambique claimed their best result of the event, and Morocco crossed third. Seychelles finishing fourth was enough. The qualification order was confirmed.
Seychelles join Tahiti at the SSL Gold Cup Finals Brasil 2026, having done just enough to hold off Morocco's late charge. Morocco and Mozambique leave Switzerland knowing the SSL47 rewards experience, and both nations showed enough to suggest they will be harder to contain next time around.
