Route du Rhum village shut as foul weather forces safety call

1 min read

The Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe village will stay shut on Thursday 22 October, despite plans to open to the public at 10am with a full programme of entertainment.

Organiser OC Sport Pen Duick, acting in consultation with the relevant authorities, made the call because of weather forecast for the latter part of the night between Thursday and Friday 23 October. The safety of the public was the deciding factor.

Organisers say they will monitor conditions closely through the day and reopen the village as soon as it is safe to do so. At the latest, festivities will resume on Saturday morning, back on the quays of Saint-Malo.

While the village remains closed, only race teams and organisation staff will have access, to keep the boats and site structures secure.
