Australian Sailing has launched a free app designed to give Discover Sailing Centre instructors across the country instant access to skills, session plans and best-practice resources, all from their phone.
Australian Sailing Hub is available now through the Apple App Store and Google Play. It brings together Discover Sailing programme content in one place, giving instructors a single spot to prepare, learn and plan before they ever step onto a pontoon.
The app is built around practical blocks. Instructors can browse simple skills drawn from the Discover Sailing Programs, each backed by short videos and animations showing exactly how it should be delivered on the water. Those clips can be cast from a phone to a bigger screen, handy for group briefings before a session.
Ready-made sessions string those skills together. Instructors can use them straight off the shelf or adapt them to build their own plans. According to Australian Sailing, the aim is to cut down time spent digging through resources, leaving more time to actually run a good session.
There's also a Learn section, focused less on what to teach and more on how to teach it. It covers best-practice guidance on delivery, safety and instruction technique, built in bite-sized form so instructors can dip in before a session, refresh a topic, or build knowledge gradually over time.
Instructing rarely leaves spare hours for long training modules, so that format matters.
The app also includes practical tools to help instructors organise their delivery and stay connected with their programme, all from the same mobile platform.
Australian Sailing frames the Hub as support for instructors at both ends of the experience spectrum: newcomers building confidence, and experienced instructors looking to refresh their approach or find new ideas for keeping sessions engaging.
Content ranges from fundamental skills through to games and more advanced on-water challenges, letting instructors match material to their group, their programme and the conditions on the day.
Australian Sailing Hub is powered by CoachMate. It's free to download, searchable simply as "Australian Sailing Hub" in either app store.
Australian Sailing has also put together a promotional toolkit, including social media graphics, posters and videos, to help clubs and Discover Sailing Centres introduce the app to their own instructor communities.
