Three days of classic boating at one of the region's most popular anchorages await when the New Zealand Classic Yachts Association's Mahurangi Weekend returns, running from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 January 2026.
A long-standing fixture on the CYA calendar, the weekend draws classic launches, yachts, and dinghies to Mahurangi Harbour for a programme that mixes competitive racing with rallying and relaxed shoreside time.
Friday afternoon sets things in motion with a Classic Boat Rally heading north. That evening, the Devonport Yacht Club Night Race to Mahurangi gets underway, counting as the third race in the CYA Passage Series. Boats unable to enter the race are encouraged to cruise up and enjoy the on-water spectacle along the way.

Saturday is the centrepiece of the weekend, with activity focused around Sullivans Bay. The Mahurangi Regatta, organised by Mahurangi Yacht Club, runs throughout the day across multiple divisions, giving classic yachts plenty of racing room. A classic launch parade and boat displays add further on-water colour, while a full programme of shoreside events keeps things lively ashore, with plenty to watch from both the water and shore.
Saturday evening brings everyone together at Scotts Landing for the CYA Mahurangi BBQ, sponsored by L'Authentique. Participants are asked to bring their own drinks and sides, with the barbecue provided.
Sunday offers a more relaxed conclusion, with crews making their way home at their own pace, either cruising back or entering the CYA Mahurangi Return Race, the fourth race in the Passage Series.
