GKSS, the Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club, has claimed the 2026 Swedish J/70 Sailing League title, sealing the win with a dominant performance at the season-deciding regatta off Ekerö.
Eighteen teams gathered for the finale, hosted by Ekerö Båtklubb, where fifteen races over the weekend whittled the fleet down to a top five. GKSS went in holding a two-point lead over KSSS (Royal Swedish YC), with Halmstads Segelsällskap a further two points back.
It turned into a rout. GKSS won the Ekerö weekend outright and locked up the overall series, finishing with a 6-1-3-1 record across the four events, Kalmar, Långedrag, Örnsköldsvik and Ekerö, for 11 points total. The winning crew was Malcolm Björsson, Amanda Ljunggren, Oscar Andersson, Klara Utterström and Fredrik Fock.
The real drama unfolded further down the leaderboard.
KSSS had looked locked into second place for most of the season, but slipped to fourth in the grand final race. That opened the door for Halmstads Segelsällskap, who posted a second-place finish to draw level with KSSS on points, both finishing the series on 16.
It came down to a tiebreak. Halmstad's 7-2-5-2 record beat out KSSS's 5-5-2-4, handing the silver medal to the Halmstad crew of Christoffer Hellekant, Otto Berg, Anders Hellekant, Liv Häggström and Alice Borslöv. KSSS, whose crew was Andreas Emmitt, Filippa Emmitt, Lova Barthelson, Nils Branden and Mathias Hermansson, had to settle for bronze.
Further back, another tiebreak decided fourth and fifth. Stenungsunds Segelsällskap, skippered by Clara Svensdotter, and Ljungskile Segelsällskap, helmed by Magnus Lundgren, finished level on 22 points apiece. The countback favoured Stenungsund for fourth, with Ljungskile taking fifth.
