Boat, Plane, or plane?

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Aotearoa Ocean Racing get a baptism by fire on the final stretch to France

They say the ocean can be a hard mistress — and right now, Conrad Colman and the Aotearoa Ocean Racing crew are living that saying in full technicolour.

In an exclusive video just sent through from onboard, Colman poses the question every sailor dreads asking: "Am I driving a plane or a submarine right now?" There's precious little straight-line boating happening out there. With days to go before MSIG Europe completes its transatlantic dash from New York to Lorient in The Ocean Race Atlantic, the weather has turned brutal.

Rain from above, spray thrown up by the boat smashing into wave after wave — the crew are copping a shower of genuinely unprecedented proportions, soaked from every direction at once. Even with all the chaos on deck, the team are pushing hard and eating up the miles toward the finish.

No sunbathing on this leg. Just solid water, some spray, and a boat charging toward France.
