Emirates GBR won the opening race of day two at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix, finishing ahead of Team USA in second and Artemis Racing in third. Yesterday's racing was voided and all points scrubbed after only three teams were able to get on the water in strong winds. Every team goes back to zero.
Dylan Fletcher's crew nailed the start from the middle of the line and quickly built a lead of 50 to 60 metres on the opening manoeuvre. They went left at the bottom mark, sailing against the tide before crossing back to use the current in their favour. By the time the fleet reached Mark 3, Emirates GBR had stretched more than 200 metres clear and went on to finish at 93 percent flight stability.
Taylor Canfield steered Team USA into second place in front of the home crowd. Artemis Racing worked the left side of the course and climbed to third.
Germany was hit with an early start penalty, and Switzerland was penalised for failing to keep clear of Red Bull Italy. France carried a penalty from earlier in the race. Australia's Bonds Flying Roos, who came into the event leading the season standings, spent the race at the back of the fleet and picked up a further penalty, with only two races left to secure a place in the final.
Spain sat out with hydraulic issues.

New Zealand also did not start, their boat not ready to race. The Black Foils next race is at Halifax on 20-21 June.
