Dame Lisa Carrington has withdrawn from the K4 500m on medical advice, with Aimee Fisher stepping in alongside Olivia Brett, Greer Morley and Lucy Matehaere. Fisher has concentrated on single and double disciplines in recent years and will also line up in the K1 500 heats on the opening day of competition.
The withdrawal follows Carrington's recent announcement that she is pregnant. She has indicated she will still race at both the Hungary and Germany World Cup regattas this month before taking 2027 off, and has stated her intention to return for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
New Zealand has an eleven-strong squad competing across the two World Cup regattas. Quaid Thompson contests the men's K1 1000m and K1 5000m, while James Munro, Kurtis Imrie, Hamish Legarth and Grant Clancy make up the men's K4 500m crew. The same group will also split into pairs for the K2 500m.
The first regatta is hosted by the Hungarian city of Szeged, where almost 700 athletes from more than 60 countries have gathered. The event marks the start of the Olympic qualification cycle.
