Beneteau has introduced the Oceanis 42 as the Oceanis range marks its 40th anniversary. The new model is the successor to the Oceanis 40.1. Beneteau says the design was shaped by ongoing discussions with owners, dealers and the specialist sailing press, with fleet data used to simplify onboard systems and improve reliability.
Beneteau says the Oceanis 42 has the largest cockpit in the 40-foot segment, with floor space up 12 percent and seating area up 10 percent on the outgoing model. Two stern configurations are offered. In the open version, the swim platform becomes a natural extension of the cockpit. The closed version adds aft seating close to the helm stations. Each helm station gains integrated seating and backrests, along with a console containing the main controls and an integrated engine throttle. These features carry over from the larger Oceanis 47 and 52.
Marc Lombard Yacht Design has increased the sail area, with the standard furling mast now 600mm taller and the classic and performance masts up by 300mm. Beneteau says the larger sailplan delivers more power while remaining manageable for cruising crews.
Below decks, the saloon and cabin hull windows are now 2.5 times larger, with the coachroof glazing also enlarged to bring in more natural light. The galley offers 215 litres of refrigeration capacity, which Beneteau says is the most in its class.
Five layouts are available, running from a two-cabin, one-head version through to a four-cabin, two-head layout built for charter operations. Beneteau says it's the only 40-footer on the market offering that range of layouts, alongside a choice between two interior architectures: an L-shaped galley version, or a longitudinal galley with a larger worktop.
