A Turkish owner has taken delivery of a new Zeelander 5, painted to match his car and his aircraft. The finish is called Light Gazelle, a shifting grey-bronze, and the 14.7 metre boat is now in the Mediterranean, the first Zeelander 5 built for that region. Zeelander has delivered the model as far afield as Hawaii and Australia, but this is its first delivery there.
Inside, Zeelander's in-house design team worked directly with the owner's own studio, and the brief clearly ran to detail. Bentley-style diamond and honeycomb stitching runs through the leather, with Hermes orange thread turning up on the vanity stool in the master cabin, the cockpit seats, and the sunloungers. A Corian countertop in the same orange curls around the starboard side of the saloon, and a Rolls-Royce-style starlight ceiling sits overhead.
Volvo Penta IPS propulsion with joystick control gets the Zeelander 5 to 40 knots, and Zeelander's own specifications put cabin noise below 72dBA, depending on engine choice, quiet enough that you're not shouting over the engines. The owner's driving it himself rather than running a crew, and the layout reflects that. The master cabin sits amidships on the boat's 4.2 metre beam, a quieter part of the boat, with the guest cabin forward, giving the owner's cabin its privacy.
Zeelander founder Sietse Koopmans says the project involved over three years of contact with the owner, who already runs a larger yacht and knew exactly what he wanted.
