The paddling community is remembering Simon McLarin this week. A legend and figurehead in New Zealand kayaking, he suffered a fatal medical event while out paddling on Saturday morning from his home club in Auckland.
McLarin was a central figure at the Waitemata Canoe and Multisport Club, where he was widely regarded as a figurehead for the sport over many years.
Tributes have come from those who knew him, reflecting the mark he left on kayaking and the community he called home on the water.
