Yanmar extends decade-long tie to America's Cup ahead of Naples

Yanmar has extended its relationship with the America's Cup, signing on as an Official Sponsor of the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup in a partnership now running past the decade mark. The next edition heads to Naples, Italy, in 2027.

The Japanese marine technology company first got involved in 2013, at the 34th edition in San Francisco, when it served as Official Technical Partner to Oracle Team USA.

That relationship carried through Bermuda for the 35th edition and then to New Zealand for the 36th, with Yanmar also taking on the role of Official Marine Partner of the America's Cup. The Barcelona edition, the 37th, saw the two sides renew their ties again.

Yanmar organises its business around what it calls its Land, Sea and City domains. In the Sea domain, the company has focused on marine innovation as a way of addressing environmental and social challenges, and it sees the America's Cup as a natural fit for that work.

The event brings together lightweight materials, foiling, hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, simulation, energy management and high-efficiency engineering. Much of that crosses over into the marine technology Yanmar is developing for everyday boating, including lower emission combustion technologies, hydrogen fuel cell technology and electric propulsion.

Yanmar has framed the partnership around ocean conservation and the long-term health of marine ecosystems, tying it to the company's stated purpose of "A Sustainable Future - New Value through Technology". Beyond the racing itself, Yanmar and the America's Cup see the partnership as a way to grow sailing's global appeal and put the teamwork and skill behind high-performance racing in front of a wider audience.

Wouter-Jan van der Wurff, President and CEO of Yanmar Marine International, said innovation has always been central to the America's Cup, making it a powerful platform for advanced marine performance.

"This closely aligns with YANMAR's approach as we continue to develop technologies that support performance today and contribute to the long-term evolution of the marine industry," he said. "The ocean is one of Earth's most important life support systems, and protecting it is central to our sustainability mission. Through this partnership, we want to champion innovation, performance and responsibility on the water."

Grant Dalton, Chairman of the America's Cup Partnership, welcomed the extension.

"The America's Cup sits at the intersection of human ambition, advanced marine technology and the ocean itself," Dalton said. "Partners like YANMAR understand that competing at the highest level means pushing the boundaries of performance and teamwork, while also recognising our responsibility to the environment that makes this sport possible. We are grateful for YANMAR's continued support and look forward to working together on another thrilling edition in Naples in 2027."
