World Boating Day returns in May 2026 with its most expansive programme to date, reaching across 19 countries and carrying a deliberate emphasis on bringing fresh faces into the boating world alongside those who already call it home.
The range of activities on offer reflects how broad the boating industry is. Participants can expect guided shipyard tours, out-on-the-water sailing experiences, design exhibitions, industry networking events, and hands-on family activities, each offering a different vantage point into a sector that is far more varied than many people realise.
Spain shapes up as one of the highlights, built around a partnership with the Balearic Marine Cluster that brings Astilleros de Mallorca, STP Shipyard Palma and Club de Mar Mallorca into the fold. The Balearic Islands programme gives visitors access to working shipyard operations alongside sailing activations, cultural events and practical workshops.
Monaco has assembled an equally compelling line-up under the coordination of Cluster Yachting Monaco. Espen Øino, Sanlorenzo MED, La Belle Classe Academy and Monaco Marine are all participating, with the schedule taking in yacht design, technical yard visits, educational sessions and waterfront gatherings. Across the border, Benetti is bringing its "Connecting Excellence" initiative to Italy, creating a space where emerging design talent and experienced industry professionals can share ideas and perspectives. Malta enters the picture with "Celebrating Life By and On the Water" at the Hotel Excelsior, an event put together by Q Global Accounting Ltd and Dingli & Dingli that weaves together waterside yoga, a talk by Vikings Sailing School, and a creative art activity.
The programme stretches well outside Europe, too. In California, the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum and Sail to Shelter have partnered to offer hands-on creative workshops, among them activities that give retired sails a practical new life. Fort Lauderdale appears on the map with Pier Sixty-Six hosting a family-friendly introduction to boating. Australia contributes through the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, which brings its characteristic mix of innovation and lifestyle to the occasion, complete with on-water displays, vessel walkthroughs and interactive experiences. For anyone unable to attend an event in person, Code\Luxe and BÄMboats have teamed up on a digital collaboration that is open to participants from anywhere in the world.
The events reflect a boating community that is inventive, genuinely connected, and actively welcoming to newcomers. Organisers have indicated further announcements are on the way, so the final programme looks set to be broader still. Events are distributed widely, and it is worth looking into what might be happening nearby, since something could easily be taking place close to home.
World Boating Day 2026 falls on 23 May, with the surrounding week of activity running from 18 to 24 May.
World Boating Day is a non-profit campaign that launched in 2024, built on the idea of simultaneous local open days held around the globe. The goal is to give the public a genuine look behind the scenes of the leisure boating industry, making visible the work that goes on every day within it. For businesses and organisations that take part, the occasion is a chance to highlight both the career pathways the sector offers and the depth of skill it already holds, with a particular focus on drawing the next generation toward leisure boating and yachting.
The campaign forms part of the wider mission of The Superyacht Life Foundation, a non-profit and commercially agnostic industry body dedicated to championing the people, places and projects connected to the superyachting world. Working with 20 industry partners, the Foundation uses its independent standing to educate, inform and engage new audiences, guided at all times by a long-term commitment to the health and vitality of the superyacht industry.
