The discipline will also feature in the Gdynia test event, where a range of competition formats will be trialled across Men's and Women's events. That test event is the proving ground before World Sailing calls for bids and runs a selection process to determine the equipment and format for the 2027 Championships.

For wingfoiling, it is a notable step forward. The discipline has grown quickly in recent years, with professionalisation following closely behind.

World Sailing President Quanhai Li welcomed the decision. "As a sport built on continuous innovation and evolution, sailing thrives when it embraces new disciplines," he said. "We are excited to showcase Wingfoil on the world stage at the 2027 Championships, and I commend the evaluation panel for their thorough work in bringing this recommendation forward."
