Josh Fletcher has won the 2026 Canterbury P Class Championships with the fleet's only race finish, after strong winds disrupted the series at Christchurch Yacht Club.
Sailing Shotgun (P374), Fletcher won race one of the Graham Mander Regatta before retiring from race two. His seven points were enough to secure first place in the published standings, with no P Class boats remaining on the water for race three.
The remaining four entrants – Nik Zotov aboard Honky Tonk, Jonah McLintock in Warringa, Samuel Quinn sailing Razzle Dazzle and Luca Hogan in P Class 14 – all finished equal second on 12 points. Each was scored DNS (did not start) in race one and DNC (did not compete) in race two.
Christchurch Yacht Club has confirmed the published results are correct, explaining that windy conditions on Saturday prompted most P Class sailors to retire.
The outcome contrasts with the 2025 championship, when Alex Fletcher won all three races aboard Razzle Dazzle.
The 2026 regatta, sailed over 31 October and 1 November, also incorporated the Starling South Island Championships, Canterbury ILCA Championships and David Mander Optimist Trophies.
