The start of The Ocean Race Atlantic has been delayed, with Race Management confirming the fleet will now get away at 1000 EDT / 1400 UTC / 1600 CEST on Wednesday 2nd September.
The change was confirmed on Wednesday morning, as boats were still working their way out of New York Harbour and through the "go slow" zones set up to reduce the risk of encounters with marine mammals and other megafauna. Progress was slower than hoped.
With the fleet's exit lagging behind schedule, the original start time was no longer workable. Organisers opted to give the boats more time to reach the start line safely.
The Ocean Race Atlantic will stream the start live on its YouTube channel, followed by the first daily OnBoard Live show at 1100 EDT / 1500 UTC / 1700 CEST.
