A jet skier has been missing off the Port Waikato coast for close to 24 hours, with Coastguard now joining police in the search.
The incident began on Christmas Day when police received reports of three people in distress at sea at around 6:30 pm. The Police Eagle helicopter crew worked alongside surf lifesavers to bring two of them to safety, but the third person remained unaccounted for.
The search resumed at first light on Friday, with the Waiuku Coastguard and the Auckland Coastguard Air Patrol both out looking for the missing jet skier.
