Taylor Canfield will miss this weekend's Switzerland Sail Grand Prix after picking up an injury, the U.S. SailGP Team has confirmed, dealing a blow to the team's push for a Grand Final berth.
The American driver has sustained what the team described as an "upper body injury", ruling him out of the 11th event of SailGP's 2026 Season.
A statement posted to social media read: "U.S. SailGP Team driver Taylor Canfield has sustained an upper body injury that will prevent him from racing at the 2026 Switzerland Sail Grand Prix this weekend. The team wishes Taylor a speedy recovery and looks forward to welcoming him back soon."
The timing is awkward. The U.S. team's win in Valencia earlier this month lifted them to third overall, with just three Grands Prix left in the season, putting the Americans firmly in the frame for a shot at the season's biggest prize.
The top three teams at season's end go through to a winner-takes-all Grand Final to decide the Rolex SailGP Champions, with the victors taking home a $2 million prize pot.
For the Americans, Grand Final appearances have been rare. They have made it just once, in Season 2, finishing third on that occasion.
Who steps in for Canfield hasn't been announced. Reserve athlete Harry Melges is widely tipped to get the call, though the team has made nothing official at this stage.
