Unsettled skies test Saint-Malo fleet as race start nears

1 min read

Météo Consult, official weather partner of the Route du Rhum, Destination Guadeloupe 2026, has issued its latest briefing on an unsettled start to the week across the English Channel as skippers continue their preparations in Saint-Malo.

A series of low-pressure systems moving between the Atlantic and northern Europe is keeping conditions weakly disturbed on Monday 26 October. Those depressions are steering a moderate south to south-westerly flow across the Channel as the fleet gathers ahead of the race start.

Cyrille Duchesne, meteorologist at Météo Consult, has been breaking down what that south to south-westerly flow means for conditions at Saint-Malo in the coming days.

Saint-Malo is rarely settled at this time of year. After a week of dockside crowds, autograph sessions and the official skipper presentation, most sailors in the fleet are now stepping back from the spotlight to focus on final weather calls before the start.

Météo Consult has released no further detail on wind strength or sea state beyond the moderate flow already noted. Further updates are expected as the picture sharpens closer to the start.
