Two spots are available for New Zealand female paddlers to take part in the Talent Identification Programme (TIP) Camp, running alongside the 2026 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships in La Vila Joiosa, Spain.
The camp runs from 4 to 12 October 2026 and is open to female athletes aged 18 to 25. It aims to bring athletes from nations newer to canoe ocean racing into an international development environment, with head coaching led by Angie Le Roux.
Accommodation, meals, local transport, and the World Championships entry fee are all covered. Athletes need to fund their own international travel, visa costs, and health insurance.
The programme looks beyond the nine days in Spain. Athletes selected through the TIP Camp will be considered for ongoing ICF support towards the 2027 World Championships, with the aim of building a competitive generation of female paddlers from Oceanian nations at the top level of the sport.
Selection priority goes to athletes willing to help grow canoe ocean racing within New Zealand beyond their own competitive careers, though applications that don't meet every criterion may still be considered. A maximum of two athletes per country will be accepted.
The timeline is tight. Interested athletes need to confirm their interest to Canoe Racing NZ by 11.59pm on Monday 3 August, along with their intention to compete at the World Championships. A passport photo must be included with the expression of interest. Canoe Racing NZ will then submit applications to the ICF by the 5 August deadline, after which the ICF will issue invitations to selected athletes.
Canoe Racing NZ has noted the short timeframe, acknowledging this was a late opportunity presented by the ICF with that deadline already set.
