Luna Rossa has signed young Italian sailor Lisa Vucetti to its Women's America's Cup roster, adding another rising star to its programme for Naples 2027.

Vucetti hails from Trieste, where she came through the ranks at Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano. She moved quickly through the Optimist and 420 classes before making her mark in the Olympic 470 Mixed class.

The results stacked up early. She was runner-up in the girls' division of the 2019 Optimist European Championship and won the junior division of Barcolana Young in 2021.

Team Racing suited her too: World Championship gold in 2021, European Championship gold in 2019, plus individual results that read like a palmares in their own right. She was runner-up at the 2021 Worlds, runner-up at both the 2019 and 2020 Europeans, and claimed two Italian Female Championship titles, in 2019 and 2021.

It was the partnership with fellow Trieste sailor Vittorio Bonifacio that really accelerated things. The pair moved into the 420 class together and built something special.

2024 was the standout year. In just 28 days, Vucetti and Bonifacio won three major international titles: the 420 European Championship in Portorož, the World Sailing Youth World Championship on Lake Garda, and the Junior Mixed 420 European Championship in Thessaloniki. Silver at the 2024 World Championships came on top of that, along with an Italian Championship win, a title Vucetti had already claimed once before, in 2023, alongside fellow Luna Rossa teammate Alice Linussi.

Then came the shift to Olympic 470 Mixed in 2025. Vucetti and Bonifacio didn't miss a beat.

In July 2026 they won the Junior 470 World Championship in Gdynia, Poland, beating the defending Israeli champions on a Medal Race tiebreak. Days later, in Nida, Lithuania, they added the Junior European Championship, completing a World and European double few sailors manage at that level.

Away from the boat, she's drawn to the mountains: snowboarding in winter, cycling in summer.

On 28 October 2026, Luna Rossa announced Vucetti's inclusion in its Women's America's Cup squad. The Italian challenger, and defending Women's and Youth America's Cup team, revealed its coaching staff had been watching her before that Junior 470 World Championship win.

Youth and Women's programme coordinator Jacopo Plazzi Marzotto explained the thinking behind the signing. "We are very pleased to welcome Lisa. She first caught our attention this summer, before the 470 Junior World Championship, which she went on to win with Vittorio Bonifacio, and she is now confirming our excellent first impressions: she is a technically accomplished sailor with a strong aptitude for teamwork, a quality we value highly."

Vucetti now joins the team's AC40 training programme in Cagliari, where the squad is building the foiling skills needed for the Women's America's Cup in Naples in 2027.

Her arrival continues a pattern of Olympic sailors crossing into the America's Cup, this time bringing a young world champion straight into one of the sport's most technically demanding environments.
