Reigning European champions Tamar Steinberg of Israel and Luuc van Opzeeland of the Netherlands have taken early leads after the opening day of the 2026 MUSTO iQFOiL World Championships at Weymouth and Portland.
Steinberg delivered a flawless performance in the women's fleet, winning all four races—two Upwind Sprints and two Course Races—to establish a clear advantage. German sailor Stella Bilger sits second overall, with Norway's Maya Gysler in third.
In the men's division, racing was limited to four Upwind Sprints after conditions deteriorated for Course Racing. The fleet produced an exceptionally tight leaderboard, with four sailors finishing level on points. Van Opzeeland emerged on top through the tiebreak, but Paweł Tarnowski of Poland, Nicolas Goyard of France and Yoav Omer of Israel all remain firmly in contention.
The championship has drawn 186 athletes from 41 nations to the London 2012 Olympic Games venue, where defending World Champions Emma Wilson and Andy Brown of Great Britain are attempting to retain their titles on home waters.
Racing continues through Saturday's Medal Series format, where only the leading sailors will contest the deciding races.
