Season finale heats up as fleet storms Key West Harbour

2 min read

The 2026 Race World Offshore season will close the way it always does: with the fleet running flat out through Key West Harbour in front of thousands of spectators. The Key West World Championships are set for November 1 to 8, based at historic Truman Waterfront Park, with race days falling on November 4, 6 and 8.

It's the circuit's traditional season finale, and for teams it carries extra weight. Points are still live, titles still unsettled, and the Florida Keys stretch provides one of the more scenic backdrops in offshore racing.

The event wouldn't run the way it does without backing from the Monroe County Tourist Development Council, the official tourism body for the Florida Keys and Key West. The council supports a chain of coral islands running more than 100 miles out to sea, strung together by the Overseas Highway and its 42 bridges. That backing helps turn race week into a week-long celebration of the Keys, drawing teams, crews and fans from around the world.

The racecourse itself runs more than four miles through Key West Harbour, and there's no shortage of vantage points. Spectators can watch from the race village near the Outer Mole, step up to Outer Mole VIP, or settle in at Fort Zachary Taylor, Mallory Square, Sunset Pier or Simonton Street Beach.

Parking near the Navy Mole is tight, so organisers are pointing people toward the free Duval Loop, a rideshare, or simply biking in.

For visitors making a trip of it, the Keys offer plenty either side of race week. Snorkelling the reefs off Key Largo, fishing at Islamorada, walking the Old Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon, and slowing down through Big Pine Key and the Lower Keys to spot the local Key deer are all part of the drive south. The road ends in Key West, where the sunsets draw their own applause.

Race week also brings the World's Fastest Boat Parade, which rolls through Old Town, giving fans a close-up look at the raceboats away from the water.
