Saturday forecast: grey skies, soft breeze
Saturday's racing may test teams’ finesse rather than raw power, with winds forecast at just 11km/h from the west. Conditions will be overcast throughout the day, with a 43% chance of light rain. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 27°C, with the UV index sitting at a moderate 6. While the breeze may not deliver top speeds, New York’s tricky river course often adds to the challenge, with wind shadows, building wakes, and unpredictable gusts between buildings. It will be a day where strategy and boat handling matter most.
Sunday forecast: clear skies, slightly stronger breeze
Sunday’s outlook is more promising. Winds are expected to remain westerly but strengthen slightly to 13km/h. Clear skies and a forecast high of 25°C will make for an excellent spectator day on the water or from shoreline vantage points like Battery Park and Brooklyn Heights Promenade. The UV index will jump to 11, so racegoers are urged to pack sun protection if they plan to watch from deck or dock.
Light air favourites?
With conditions expected to remain light, teams with strong light-wind records may have the upper hand. The Spanish and French squads have shown moments of brilliance in softer air, while reigning champions Australia—despite a challenging season—are always a threat. New Zealand, meanwhile, will be looking for redemption after their Auckland disappointment and will be hoping for clean starts and crisp manoeuvres to claw back leaderboard ground.
