SailGP's first permanent training base is now established at the American Magic High Performance Center in Pensacola, Florida, following an agreement with NYYC American Magic that runs through to 2031. The deal secures a fixed, year-round training location in North America for the league as it continues to expand.
Previously, teams had little opportunity to train outside race weekends, with no dedicated base available to the fleet on a continuing basis. Pensacola changes that, offering reliable wind conditions, sheltered water, and consistent year-round access. Rather than building a new facility from the ground up, SailGP will operate within an existing high-performance environment, one that NYYC American Magic opened in January.
With 13 teams on the water and further growth anticipated, the lack of structured training infrastructure had become an increasing constraint. A centralised base addresses that directly.
SailGP will manage training time allocation across teams from the centre. A pay-to-train model means teams can book access only when needed, without carrying the overhead of a private facility. On-water support, safety services, and technical assistance will be shared among teams using the base, and simulator capability will also be available. Training outside the race calendar is expected to begin in September 2026.
NYYC American Magic's role is that of host and service provider. The organisation will not field a SailGP team, keeping it separate from competition on the water while remaining central to the league's preparation activities.
For individual teams, the Pensacola base removes the need to source and fund private training environments. For the league as a whole, it provides a stable reference point for equipment, preparation, and operational consistency as the fleet grows. The facility is now a formal part of SailGP's operating structure.
