Tom Slingsby and the Australian SailGP team arrive in Cádiz this weekend carrying both the championship lead and the weight of expectation. The event, running 4–5 October, is the final European stop of the 2025 SailGP season before the Grand Final in Abu Dhabi next month.
The BONDS Flying Roos have been the dominant force of this campaign. Three SailGP titles to the team's name, five podium finishes already banked this season, and now Cádiz to navigate before a winner-takes-all showdown. Few teams arrive at a penultimate event carrying this kind of momentum.
Forecasts suggest the conditions off the Spanish coast will suit the Australians well. A moderate 17–22km/h breeze over a rolling Atlantic swell is expected to reward precision over opportunism, putting a premium on clean starts, steady foiling, and disciplined flight control. SailGP commentator Lisa Darmanin outlined what that means in practice: "It's probably going to be a boat-handling speed race rather than a shifty, erratic course. It will be all about teams getting off the startline well and sailing their boat to 100 per cent."

Team coach Ben Durham is equally focused on execution, pointing to technical refinements the crew have been working through since their last outing. "We have a lot more understanding of the light air T-Foils and the new rudders, so we're really refining what we learned in Geneva," he said. "There's also a bank of wind data from previous Cádiz racing that we'll use to sharpen our strategy."
A strong result this weekend would give the Australians breathing room heading into Abu Dhabi, where the 2025 SailGP Championship trophy will be decided.
