ROCKWOOL Racing pass Brazil to win Group A race as Germany drop to seventh.

Nicolai Sehested's ROCKWOOL Racing found better breeze on the left, rounded the last gate level with Paul Goodison's Mubadala Brazil then won by 13 seconds, while a second penalty put Germany behind the U.S. at the finish.

The ROCKWOOL Racing SailGP Team of Denmark won Group A second race in the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix in Geneva on Saturday, passing the Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team on the third leg and finishing 13 seconds clear. Nicolai Sehested's crew took 12 minutes 40.1 seconds, comfortably inside the 16-minute cap. DS Automobiles SailGP Team France were third and Los Gallos SailGP Team fourth.

It was a deathly slow start to the race, with all teams off their foils. It was a clean start, no penalties with Germany by Deutsche Bank a little behind what looked to be a flat line across the remainder of the fleet. In the end, Mubadala Brazil had the start and the clean air. Paul Goodison, the 2008 Olympic Laser champion, and driving for the team, crossed a second behind the gun, rounded the first mark first and led Denmark by 7.7 seconds. The Brazilian crew called "no overlap" as Denmark closed, which gave them the mark.

Los Gallos and France reached the first mark side by side, with Spain on the inside holding right of way, and Artemis SailGP Team, winners of Group A's first race, had to keep clear of both. France held Artemis out and forced them to the bottom of the mark, and they rounded fifth. The United States SailGP Team, with Martine Grael driving, had cleared a pre-start penalty for fouling Artemis with two tacks and got out of the pile-up sixth. Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank crossed 11 seconds after the gun and rounded last.

The breeze ran between 7 and 9 km/h across the course. Brazil led by 24 seconds at the DP World gate, where they and Denmark turned left and France went the other way looking for more wind. On the next leg Sehested could be heard telling his coach he was taking the left for breeze, and Brazil sailed a long way to the right keeping the distance to a minimum. The Oracle Cloud graphic showed the better pressure on Denmark's side, and Denmark rounded the third mark first by 6.7 seconds.

At the last gate Denmark were doing 13 km/h to Brazil's 11 km/h. Brazil arrived on the inside and owned the turn but needed an extra manoeuvre to reach the finish. Sehested took the outside line, and held the advantage. The two rounded level, and Denmark won the last leg by 13 seconds.

Artemis were last at the third mark, 1:55.3 behind, and moved up when both the U.S. SailGP and Germany by Deutsche Bank teams were penalised. Throughout the race the U.S. SailGP Team served three penalties, one before the start and two in the race, the second for fouling Germany ahead of the third mark, and were last at the fourth. At that last gate Germany, on port tack under Erik Heil, failed to keep clear of Artemis on starboard. The umpires penalised them, they dropped behind Artemis, and Artemis took fifth and the final point.

Germany were penalised again near the line, this time for not giving room to the U.S., who came in fast on the inside and made contact. Germany crossed five seconds ahead of the U.S. and were classified seventh.

ROCKWOOL Racing and Artemis now lead Group A on six points. Los Gallos and France have five, Germany and Brazil four, and the U.S. nothing from two races. Denmark, fourth in the Valencia final, were fifth in Race 1. Germany, last year's Geneva winners, were second in it. Only the top two in each group reach the final, and Artemis, who are chasing the same Grand Final place as the U.S., lead them by six points. Group B's third race is next.
