Pirelli takes its foil tech from tyres to Luna Rossa's AC75

Pirelli is expanding its presence on Luna Rossa's race yachts ahead of the 38th America's Cup, with the tyre maker's logo set to appear on the foils and rudder of both the AC40 and AC75, alongside its existing position on the mainsail.

The partnership runs deeper than livery. Pirelli holds Official Sponsor and Technical Partner status with the Italian syndicate and has contributed expertise in advanced materials to support development of the AC75's appendages, the underwater surfaces that carry the entire load when the yacht lifts onto its foils.

That knowledge draws on research conducted across Pirelli's broader business, including the development of PNCS (Pirelli Noise Cancelling System), a technology designed to reduce rolling noise generated within a tyre's internal cavity. The materials science involved translates, perhaps surprisingly, to the demands of high-load composite structures in offshore racing.

The updated branding makes its debut in September on the AC40, the 40-foot foiling monohull used for training and preliminary regattas. It moves across to the AC75 in November, the yacht with which Luna Rossa will contest the 38th America's Cup itself.
