Paid parking will be enforced at Okahu Bay from Thursday 3 September, affecting the Akarana Marine Sports Centre car park through to the southern section of the main car park.
The Auckland Council and Ōrākei Local Board scheme operates daily from 8am to 7pm. Visitors receive 90 minutes free parking after entering their licence plate into the online system. After that, cars pay $3 per hour and vehicles with trailers $5 per hour, capped at $22 daily. A 15-minute drop-off and pick-up window requires no action.
Royal Akarana Yacht Club members receive four hours free parking for after-school, evening and half-day activities, though the club warns Sundays and full-day events will be more difficult. Members must visit the Sailing Office to claim exemptions initially, with a self-service system under development.
The club stated it "does not support this change and is extremely disappointed with the outcome, particularly given the commitments made to the club throughout the consultation process that our members would not be adversely affected." The club said it receives no revenue from the parking scheme and that it will continue raising the issue with council on behalf of members and other boat owners who use the area.
Free parking remains available along Tāmaki Drive 24/7. Boat storage inside buildings is unaffected, though vessels stored at the south end of the car park may be relocated.
