City Dock in Annapolis draws sailors from across the region each spring, and the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show running April 24-26 looks set to deliver one of the strongest in-water displays in the event's history. More than 30 sailboats, covering both monohull and multihull designs, will be moored at the docks and available for inspection. That tally makes it the second largest annual in-water sailboat display in the United States, ranking ahead of the Miami show that wrapped up earlier this year.
The scheduling is no accident. Spring commissioning is well underway across the Chesapeake Bay when the show opens its gates, meaning sailors are already thinking hard about new purchases, upgrades, and what the coming season demands. Rather than poring over brochures at home, visitors get to step aboard, compare sailing systems and cabin layouts in person, and talk through their questions at length with the dealers who know these boats inside and out.
Those dealer relationships tend to run deep. For a great many Chesapeake sailors, the person who sold them their boat remains the same one coordinating haul-outs, arranging winter storage, keeping maintenance on schedule, and picking up the phone when something needs attention mid-season. Dealers help owners work through warranty requirements, plan equipment upgrades, and adapt as their sailing ambitions shift from year to year. For those earlier in their sailing lives, having a dependable point of contact takes much of the guesswork out of learning to manage a boat.
"Sailboat ownership is about building confidence and enjoying time on the water, that's where strong dealer relationships make a difference," said Sheila Jones, General Manager of the Annapolis Boat Shows. "Our dealers help owners prepare for each season, find the right boat, and plan ahead as their needs change."
The boats on display will span a wide range of ambitions, from relaxed weekend sailing on sheltered waters through to coastal passage-making platforms that demand more capable designs. Visitors are free to work their way along the docks at their own pace, weighing up onboard comfort, sailing systems, and layout choices while having frank conversations with knowledgeable dealer teams about what real ownership actually involves.
Among the new models generating interest this year, Signature Catamarans on Dock A will be showing the Lagoon 38, a compact cruising catamaran designed around efficient handling and a well-considered use of living space. Berthed alongside it, the Lagoon 43 offers expanded interior volume and updated design details, appealing to sailors with extended cruising or regular onboard entertaining in mind.
The City Dock setting, right at the centre of Annapolis, makes it straightforward to turn the weekend into more than a boat-shopping exercise. Between sessions on the docks, attendees can explore the town's boutiques, take in maritime landmarks, and find waterfront dining within easy walking distance. For many in the sailing community, the show doubles as a welcome chance to catch up with friends and fellow sailors, think about what the new season might bring, and spend a spring weekend in one of the country's most storied sailing destinations.
