Two people who failed to return from a crayfishing trip off the Napier coast became the focus of a search this morning, with one person rescued from the water and the other found dead.
Police said the alarm was raised at 1.40pm, and Coastguard Hawke's Bay were deployed to assist with the search. At 3.10pm, one of the missing people was found in the water, brought back to shore, and checked over by ambulance staff.
The second person was found unresponsive in the water a short time later. Police said they were unable to be revived, and the death will be referred to the coroner.
