Poralu Marine pontoons, already in use at some of the world's most prominent rowing venues, are now available to New Zealand clubs, schools, and organisations through local agent Aotearoa Boat Company.
The manufacturer's systems were installed at the 2026 World Rowing Cup in Lucerne, adding to a portfolio that includes the Paris 2024 and London 2012 Olympic Games. Closer to home, Poralu pontoons are in use at the Sydney International Regatta Centre and Champion Lakes in Perth.
Poralu Marine has been designing and building floating infrastructure for over 40 years. Its pontoons are manufactured from marine-grade materials and carry a 30-year design life, with 180 mm freeboard that meets New Zealand standards and low ongoing maintenance requirements.
The range also includes flood-resistant systems for waterways exposed to extreme conditions, an increasingly relevant consideration for New Zealand facilities.
Environmental design is a stated priority for Poralu. The company's EcoStyle decking is 100% recyclable and allows sunlight to pass through the pontoon surface, helping to preserve the aquatic environment underneath. A Life Cycle Assessment completed in 2019 has since guided further development, leading to measures including bio-based materials, recyclable components, anchoring systems designed to limit seabed disturbance, and waste and wastewater collection systems. Current design work also accounts for both day-to-day and future sea water levels.
Aotearoa Boat Company works with clients from initial feasibility through to installation and commissioning, covering projects of any scale from a single pontoon on a local waterway to large, complex installations with significant environmental and regulatory requirements.
