Launching three new sailing catamarans within a single year is a serious undertaking for any production builder, yet Leopard Catamarans has done precisely that, introducing two replacement models and one fresh addition to its sailing range. The Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, running 21 to 24 May, marks the first opportunity for the Australian and New Zealand market to see all three together on the dock.
The Leopard 52 steps into the shoes of the Leopard 50, a proven bluewater cruiser with a loyal following. Rather than reinventing the formula, the Leopard 52 refines it, delivering more living space, better indoor-outdoor flow, and comprehensively upgraded systems. The target buyer is someone planning to live aboard on extended passages, not simply endure them.
The Leopard 46 takes over from the Leopard 45, retaining the layout that has given the range its identity: a forward cockpit, a generous aft cockpit, and a light-filled open saloon. Short-handed handling and genuine crew comfort sit alongside a sharper focus on sailing performance, suggesting the Leopard 46 moves the game on from its predecessor in that respect. Like the Leopard 52, it suits both private ownership and charter operation.
Sitting below the Leopard 46 in the line-up, the Leopard 43 takes over from the Leopard 42 and is pitched at couples and smaller families seeking a capable bluewater cat in a size that remains manageable. Smarter use of available space and improved sailing efficiency distinguish it from the model it replaces.
On the power side, the Leopard 53 Powercat has received a thorough refresh rather than a full replacement. Engine noise has long been one of the more persistent irritants of live-aboard power cat life, and Leopard has addressed it directly with a sealed engine room, completely isolated from the living areas. The saloon has been redesigned around Lewmar glass stackable doors that open straight out to the cockpit, while the aft deck adopts a modular layout. An optional electric lifting platform serves as both a tender station and a swim deck, adding practicality to the space.
Rounding out the Sanctuary Cove display are the Leopard 40 Powercat and the Leopard 46 Powercat, covering the entry level and the middle of the power cat range respectively.
