Sixty years after its founding, Nautor Swan chose not to dwell on the past. Instead, the iconic Finnish sailing brand used boot Düsseldorf as the launching pad for an ambitious anniversary programme that looks squarely toward its seventh decade.
The celebrations got underway formally on 18 January with the Swan Soirée, held during boot Düsseldorf, where Nautor Swan laid out its intentions for 2026 in unmistakable terms. Renewed ambition, advanced technology and a sharp vision for performance sailing's future were the themes of the evening, with nostalgia notably absent from the agenda.
The story behind the brand begins in 1966, when Pekka Koskenkylä founded Nautor Swan roughly 345 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle. From the outset, the yard built its reputation on a specific and demanding proposition: combining genuine racing performance with true cruising capability. The Swan 36 Tarantella established that design philosophy from the very beginning, fusing engineering precision with enduring elegance, and the balance it struck has remained the brand's signature ever since.
Nautor Swan now operates under the ownership of Sanlorenzo, which acquired a majority stake in 2024, giving the Finnish yard the backing of long-term investment and a shared appetite for innovation. Sanlorenzo Chairman and CEO Massimo Perotti described the anniversary as a platform for progress, driven by new yacht generations, advanced propulsion technologies and a growing global community of owners.
Innovation was a central thread running through everything outlined at Düsseldorf. The programme for the anniversary year confirmed the debut of the Swan 80, which will serve as the new entry point to the Swan Maxi range and is scheduled to make its public appearance at the Cannes Yachting Festival. Further concepts were also put forward, among them a return to the 70-foot segment through the Swan 73, an entirely new deep-sea cruising yacht line, and the Swan Alloy 44, the brand's first aluminium supermaxi.
The racing and owner community remains a cornerstone of what Nautor Swan represents, and a structured calendar of ClubSwan racing, international regattas and owner events will run across the full year. The programme builds toward September's Rolex Swan Cup, which is expected to draw a record fleet to mark the occasion.
Among the more notable elements of the anniversary plans is the refit of the original Swan 36 Tarantella. Once restored, she is set to sail to the Mediterranean and take part in the Rolex Swan Cup, drawing a direct line between the yacht that started everything and the direction the brand is now determined to pursue.
