Naples flour maker Caputo becomes America's Cup supplier

3 min read

Mulino Caputo has been named an Official Supplier and the Official Flour of the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup, as Naples prepares to host the regatta for the first time in the event's 175-year history.

Founded in Naples in 1924, the Caputo family has been milling flour for more than a century. Its products now turn up in pizzerias, bakeries and professional kitchens around the globe, yet the brand has stayed tightly bound to its Neapolitan roots, to the point where it has become shorthand internationally for authentic Neapolitan pizza.

Under the partnership, Caputo will have an active presence throughout the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup programme in Naples, bringing the food, hospitality and traditions of the host city to teams, partners and visiting crowds.

Marzio Perrelli, Chief Executive of the America's Cup Partnership, said the tie-up carried real significance.

"We are delighted to welcome Mulino Caputo as an Official Supplier of the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup. This is a very special partnership because Caputo is so deeply connected to Naples and its culture. As we bring the America's Cup to this extraordinary city for the first time, we want the event to celebrate not only world-class sailing but also the very best of Naples. Caputo is a perfect representation of that."

For Caputo, the arrangement offers a global stage to showcase both its heritage and Naples' food culture more broadly.

Antimo Caputo, Chief Executive of Mulino Caputo, said the moment meant a great deal to his family.

"For our family, seeing the America's Cup come to Naples is a source of enormous pride. Naples is our home and has been at the heart of everything we have done for more than 100 years. To become the Official Flour of the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup allows us to welcome the world to our city through one of its greatest traditions, its food. The America's Cup represents excellence, passion, innovation and an endless pursuit of perfection, values that we recognise very strongly at Mulino Caputo. It is very exciting to support this sporting event; in 175 years of history, we are the first mill to become an Official Supplier."

The pairing makes more sense than it first appears. America's Cup teams chase marginal gains, endlessly refining boats, sails and technology. Caputo's millers do something similar in a different register, picking and blending grains to produce flours matched precisely to what the world's top pizza makers and bakers need.

Tradition and technology, experience and innovation, craft and performance: both sides claim the same values.

Naples will sit at the centre of the international sailing world through to the America's Cup Match, which begins on 10 July 2027. Before that final showdown, the city will host the Louis Vuitton Cup Challenger Selection Series along with a wider programme of racing and events, drawing competitors, supporters and visitors from across the globe to the Bay of Naples.

Mulino Caputo remains a family-owned mill, now run by the third generation of the Caputo family. It combines traditional milling knowledge with modern production methods and careful sourcing of raw materials, and its flour is particularly well known within the international pizza-making community.

One of the city's most famous products now sits alongside one of world sport's oldest trophies, a fitting match for a Cup that has come home to Naples at last.
