Nathan Williams and his Mr Kite II crew crossed the finish line just west of the Auckland Harbour Bridge, completing the 500 nautical mile Three Kings Offshore Yacht Race course in 2 days, 5 hours and 43 seconds. On the water they were second, finishing 1 hour and 22 minutes behind record-breaker Clockwork after more than 53 hours of racing.
Line honours, though, is only half the picture. Once Mr Kite II's PHRF rating of 0.995 was applied to their elapsed time, the corrected result came out at 2d 4h 44m 49s, moving Mr Kite II ahead of Clockwork on corrected time by 36 minutes and 43 seconds.
They said they were coming in hot. They weren't wrong.
