Maritimo has spent considerable time talking about sports yacht DNA, and at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show this week the Australian builder is showing what that phrase means in physical form. The S50 Sedan Motor Yacht represents what the company describes as a "ground-up reimagining" of everything the S-series stands for, and one look at it alongside earlier models makes clear this is not a cosmetic update dressed up as something more.
The visual shift is striking. The S50 sits lower and carries a leaner profile than its predecessors, with a roofline that moves and curves rather than simply sitting flat above the hull. Black detailing is used deliberately throughout to sharpen the overall stance, and the reshaped coachhouse adds to the sense that this boat has been designed with a more aggressive character in mind. The redesigned cockpit boot echoes the lines of the cabin top, visually uniting the vessel from the stern all the way forward to the windscreen. That same boot conceals practical equipment including seating, a barbecue, sink, cooler and lazarette access, all within a form that keeps the exterior looking uncluttered.
Maritimo founder Bill Barry-Cotter AM was direct in his assessment, describing the S50 as "our most S boat ever."
"The refinement and evolution of our design ethos really do make the new S50 'our most S boat ever,'" Barry-Cotter said. "The sculpture of the cabin top, which is then reflected in the boot over the lazarette, along with the cantilevered co-pilot's seat adjacent to the skipper's helm chair, along with the vast, and tall glass throughout the main deck to deliver incredible light all say one thing — Maritimo!"
A large fixed overhang is incorporated into the roofline, providing weather protection, while contrasting black accents continue to reinforce the sports-oriented theme. Below the styling, the foundations remain true to what Maritimo has always built. Shaft-drive propulsion, race-derived steering and a layout conceived around extended offshore passages rather than weekend hops all carry through from earlier models, preserving the blue-water capability the brand has built its reputation on.
Perhaps the most immediately noticeable change when stepping inside is how much the interior has opened up compared with previous Maritimo sedans. The aft galley arrangement, a feature the company first introduced more than 20 years ago, has moved to the port side, strengthening the relationship between the saloon and the cockpit entertaining area. Oversized side windows combine with a glass skylight set into the roof to flood the saloon with natural light, and opening sections throughout the main deck allow for improved airflow.
Maritimo Operations Manager Phil Candler described the interior-exterior connection as a central consideration from the outset. "At its core, the S50 Sedan has been conceived to deliver a seamless connection between interior and exterior living spaces, which is an increasingly important consideration for modern motor yacht owners," Candler said. "The expansive main saloon exemplifies this philosophy, offering a level of openness, natural light, and airflow that sets a new benchmark in the 50-foot sedan motor yacht category."
The cockpit has also grown, with usable space extended by around 300mm. A powered hatch beneath the rear seating opens to give access to the lazarette, steering gear and onboard systems, while a tilting and lowering swim platform built into the transom makes water access straightforward without leaving the stern looking untidy when the boat is underway.
Down below, the S50 shares its two-stateroom accommodation layout with the M50 Flybridge, offering walkaround beds, full bathrooms and a VIP cabin that can be configured for either twin or double sleeping arrangements. A convertible saloon settee brings total sleeping capacity to six. The fit-out as a whole reflects Maritimo's focus on owners who want to spend genuine time aboard, with domestic appliances, generous storage and full laundry facilities all included.
Maritimo Manufacturing Manager Paul Wrench acknowledged that the design challenge lay in pushing the aesthetic further without compromising the traits existing owners rely on. "Maritimo continues to focus on delivering vessels that inspire confidence and encourage owners to venture further," Wrench said. "The new S50 has a real flair about it, without altering the traditional Maritimo robustness. It is not just in all the curves and angles of the roof, nor the significantly different C-pillar at the rear of the coachhouse. Even the air ducting for the engine room is sleeker."
Power is provided by twin Volvo Penta shaft-drive installations. Launch specifications list up to twin D13 engines rated at 800hp each, a setup that reflects Maritimo's long-standing preference for shaft drives over the pod systems found in many competing luxury sports yachts. That choice keeps serious offshore cruising capability at the heart of what the S50 offers.
Maritimo expects the S50 to attract both loyal customers looking for a more compact platform and buyers who are new to the brand. Maritimo Marketing Manager Simon Stewart said the model has been positioned with a broad audience in mind. "Our world-class ride, comfort, reliability, genuine long-range capability, onboard liveability for extended voyages, and exceptional seakeeping place the S50 firmly on everyone's list, regardless of where they are in their boating journey," Stewart said. "We are immensely proud of the S50 and have taken great satisfaction in seeing the confidence of owners and enthusiasts alike as they experience the style and ergonomics we have worked so hard to build into this remarkable vessel."
The global debut of the S50 Sedan Motor Yacht takes place at Sanctuary Cove from 21 to 24 May 2026.
