Emergency services were called to Auckland harbour shortly after 3:30 pm on 10 August 2025, after reports that a man had gone overboard from a boat near the Outboard Boating Club marina. St John Ambulance received the call at 3:32 pm and sent one ambulance, a first response unit, a rapid response unit, and a manager to the scene.
Police located the man in the water and brought his body ashore at the Outboard Boating Club on Tāmaki Drive. Resuscitation efforts were made at the scene, but he could not be saved and died there. Paramedics had no requirement to transport him to hospital.
The Outboard Boating Club sits on Tāmaki Drive heading east from the Auckland city centre, serving as one of the city's major boating hubs. The facility includes 15 launching ramps, a clubhouse, and direct access to the Hauraki Gulf. The nearby Ngapipi Road boat sheds in Ōrākei are also close to the waterway where the man entered the water.
His identity has not been released publicly. Whether the boat he fell from was berthed at the club itself or elsewhere in the harbour has not been confirmed. The circumstances leading to him entering the water remain unclear, with police giving no indication that foul play is suspected. It has not been established whether a medical event, a loss of balance, or some other factor was responsible.
The matter has been referred to the Coroner, who will make the official determination on cause of death. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
