The occasion was held inside the Palazzo Reale, drawing together competing teams, organisers, and international media to mark the official start of what is being called the Road to Naples. The ceremony carried a clear underlying message: this edition of the Cup is being defined as much by structural reform as by sailing competition.

At the heart of the announcement was the creation of the America's Cup Partnership, known as the ACP, a new governance body constituted by the competing teams themselves. The ACP introduces shared decision-making and neutral management, with the aim of delivering the long-term stability and commercial confidence the event has not always enjoyed. Five teams have been confirmed as founding ACP members and challengers: Emirates Team New Zealand, GB1 as Challenger of Record, Luna Rossa, Tudor Team Alinghi, and K-Challenge.

The intent is to move the Cup away from fragmented control and toward a model that gives teams, sponsors, and broadcasters greater certainty about the event's future.

Louis Vuitton's renewal as headline sponsor reflects that confidence directly. The brand's connection to the Cup reaches back to 1983 and the founding of the Louis Vuitton Cup, a relationship that helped shape the modern era of the competition. Chief Executive Officer Pietro Beccari framed the renewed commitment as support for a more modern and inclusive direction, while noting the particular significance of Italy hosting the event for the first time.

For observers watching how major commercial partners respond to the new governance model, the signal is straightforward. One of the world's most prominent luxury brands has considered what the ACP represents and chosen to remain.

Grant Dalton, Chief Executive of Emirates Team New Zealand, confirmed the dates that will now anchor planning across every part of the event. The Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup Match will open with two races on Saturday 10 July 2027, with racing expected to conclude over the weekend of 17 and 18 July 2027. With the calendar locked, design programmes, broadcast arrangements, and commercial timelines can all begin taking firm shape.

Italian government and sporting leaders used the launch to reinforce strong institutional support behind the Naples event, pointing to anticipated media reach, urban regeneration outcomes, and the opportunity to establish the Gulf as a world-class sailing venue.

Attention soon returned to competitive matters. Cagliari has been confirmed as the host of the first Preliminary Regatta, providing the opening on-water step on the Road to Naples.

One of the most distinctive moments of the presentation was a cultural welcome led by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. Representing the Defender and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, the iwi formally acknowledged the creation of the ACP and presented pounamu taonga to the founding teams.

Both Dalton and Challenger of Record Sir Ben Ainslie described the Partnership as a genuine reset for the America's Cup, citing clearer governance, closer racing, and a stronger commercial platform as the defining ambitions of this cycle.

Teams are confirmed, dates are set, and a new framework is in place. The Road to Naples has begun.
