Spain's Los Gallos have booked their place in the Grand Final after a commanding win at the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix in Geneva, toppling championship leaders the Bonds Flying Roos along the way.
Diego Botín's crew needed the result. Two weeks after missing the Final on home waters in Valencia, this was their answer: a third Grand Prix win in five events this season.
The ten points from Geneva guarantee Los Gallos a spot in the season-deciding Grand Final in November, even though they still trail the Australians by 16 points overall.
The 2024 Rolex SailGP Champions will face three-time SailGP winners the Bonds Flying Roos in the Grand Final, with one place still up for grabs.
"It's a very rewarding feeling," wing trimmer Florian Trittel said. "This weekend in particular felt like it could have gone either way. We could have finished eighth or 10th, and we ended up with the win."
"Coming from Valencia after a devastating Sunday for us, which I think was the most difficult moment of the season for our team, to now get the win feels really good. It's a little bit of what we can give back to our fans and everybody."
Los Gallos ended the opening session in Geneva fourth out of seven in Group A. A stellar final day and a nailbiting last group race then pushed them through to the Final alongside the Bonds Flying Roos, ROCKWOOL Racing and Explora Swiss.
The Bonds Flying Roos led off the start line and looked in control, but Los Gallos split away from the fleet, a bold move that put them back in front when the two boats came together again.
Botín's crew found another gear, held their lead to the finish, and set off huge celebrations onboard the Spanish F50, with a packed Lake Geneva shoreline roaring its approval.
The Australians, meanwhile, have now shown twice in a row that they are beatable. Having lost the Final in Valencia in the closing moments, the Bonds Flying Roos again surrendered a healthy lead, this time in a light-wind finish, and were left with the runner-up spot for a second consecutive event.
ROCKWOOL Racing rounded out the podium, their first of the 2026 season, denying home side Explora Swiss a fairytale finish on their own water.
The Swiss team had already made history earlier in the day, reaching the Final for the first time in front of a home crowd after winning two group races to get there.
Two events remain, and the battle for that third and final Grand Final berth is still wide open, with several teams chasing Los Gallos and the Bonds Flying Roos for a place in the Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix 2026 Season Grand Final presented by Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
For Los Gallos, though, the road to a second championship title is now locked in.
