Light winds halt Valencia racing as Platoon clings to slim lead

2 min read

No racing took place in Valencia today, the wind too light and too unsettled for officials to set a fair course. German-flagged Platoon Aviation carry a 12-point lead over Takashi Okura's Sled, the world champions, into the penultimate day of the 2026 season, with Thailand's Whitcraft family still topping the regatta leaderboard after four races.

Time is running short for Sled to close that gap. But with a record 16-boat fleet lining up in Valencia, the 2026 title could still go either way.

"Today was a long day waiting for the wind to stabilise," said Sled's Italian navigator Andrea Visintini back on the dock. "We had some pressure but it really was shifting around and it was difficult to set a fair race course. We were hoping the sea breeze might fill right in at a certain point as most forecasts were predicting. But it didn't happen. There are two more days to go and so it is getting a little bit difficult for us. The forecast for tomorrow is light again. But we are a strong team, we are in good spirits."

Platoon Aviation's navigator, America's Cup winner Juan Vila, saw it differently.

"It was very shifty, we waited until late but no go," Vila said. "For us then it is still the same, nothing changes. 12 points is nothing, we could lose that in one race."

On the regatta leaderboard, Thailand's Whitcraft family aboard Vayu remain out in front after four races on 17 points. Platoon Aviation sit second on 18, Alkedo Cetilar third on 19, and Sled fourth, also on 19 but behind on the tiebreak.

Andrea Lacorte's Italian entry Alkedo Cetilar looks slightly more secure in the fight for third overall in the circuit standings, holding 236 points, a 16-point buffer over both Trinity Racing of Sweden and Paprec of France, who are tied on 252 apiece.

Racing is due to resume on Friday, with a warning signal set for around 1400hrs local time in Valencia.
