Kayo locks in Cup coverage as Team Australia mounts big return

Australian broadcaster Kayo SPORTS has extended its deal to carry the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup, locking in coverage of every stage of the campaign through to the Match itself in 2027.

The agreement, struck with the America's Cup Partnership, means the Preliminary Regattas, the Louis Vuitton Cup Challenger Selection Series 2027, the America's Cup Match 2027, the Women's America's Cup and the Youth America's Cup will all screen live on Kayo SPORTS and FOXTEL. Highlights and live coverage will also run through Kayo Freebies and BINGE, widening the audience well beyond subscribers.

Emirates Team New Zealand, the current Defender, will be defending its title in front of a bigger Australian audience than ever, with Team Australia mounting its biggest challenge in decades.

The road to the Match is already under way. A three-day Preliminary Regatta in Sardinia ran from 22-25 May 2026, kicking off what's being called the "Road to Naples". Naples hosts the next Preliminary Regatta from 24-27 September, before the Challenger Selection Series in May-June 2027 and the America's Cup Match itself in July 2027.

Team Australia's return marks its first campaign in almost thirty years, and the line-up carries serious pedigree. Tom Slingsby, an Olympic gold medallist and two-time World Sailor of the Year, headlines the effort. He's joined by three-time America's Cup winner Glenn Ashby and Grant Simmer, who navigated Australia II to that famous 1983 victory. Simmer now serves as Team Australia's CEO.

This edition of the Cup will feature every previous winning team in the one competition, the first time that has happened in the event's history.

Foxtel Group CEO Patrick Delany said the deal reinforced Kayo SPORTS' commitment to sailing. "Our extended agreement to bring the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup to our audiences reinforces Kayo SPORTS' commitment to delivering world-class sailing to Australian fans. Together with the America's Cup Partnership, we're growing the sport's audience and connecting more Australians with the drama and spectacle of the competition," he said.

"With Team Australia returning to the challenge for the first time in nearly three decades, there's never been a more exciting time for sailing in this country."

Marzio Perrelli, Chief Executive Officer of the America's Cup Partnership, welcomed the extension. "Kayo SPORTS' unrivalled reach across Australia makes them the perfect partner to bring the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup to fans across the country. This agreement ensures audiences won't miss a moment as Team Australia mounts another historic challenge on the world stage."

Simmer, reflecting on the anniversary of that 1983 win, framed the new campaign as a continuation of something bigger than one team. "Forty years ago, Australia II showed what Australians can achieve when we come together behind a bold ambition. Now, we're excited to be bringing Australian sailors, designers and innovators back under one flag to challenge for the America's Cup once again in 2027," he said.

"We know how much this competition means to Australians, and we're grateful that fans across the country will be able to follow the journey on Kayo SPORTS."

The America's Cup dates back to 1851, making it the oldest continually contested trophy in international sport. It remains the pinnacle of yacht racing, pairing elite sailors with cutting-edge design as national teams representing yacht clubs go head to head.

The Kayo deal also slots the Cup alongside the broadcaster's existing sports portfolio, which includes AFL, NRL, Supercars, Formula 1 and cricket, plus NFL, NBA, NHL and NBL coverage through ESPN. For Emirates Team New Zealand, it means the Cup they hold will now be seen across the Tasman by more Australians than at any point in its history, just as the nation mounting the challenge returns in full force.
