135 entries across seven fleets contested the third leg of the 2026 Auckland Junior Winter Sprint Series at Wakatere Boating Club last weekend. Lighter conditions meant most fleets completed two races, though Optimist White squeezed out three. Class wins went to Dallas Noyer in P Class, Tommy Liu in Optimist White, Zephyr Lane and Aurora Edhouse in Optimist Open, Ollie Rainbird in Optimist Green, Guangnian Li and Nico Cheng in RS Feva, and Roberto Beavis and Lucy Eaton in Starling. Earlier rounds were held at Murrays Bay Sailing Club in May and Royal Akarana Yacht Club in June.
In late June, Nelson Yacht Club paired with Nelson Intermediate School, the Otago Marine Studies Centre and Nelson City Council on a kororā conservation project. Students built nesting boxes, learned about the little blue penguin population living beneath the club, and took part in a virtual reality marine conservation experience.
Taipa Sailing Club members grabbed a clear winter day for a sail to Reids Beach, a welcome outing for a club still recovering from severe weather in April 2025 that lifted half its roof and folded it over the other half. The club has raised over $10,000 in donations since the damage occurred.
Christchurch Yacht Club has pulled its pontoon from the water for a major refurbishment. Volunteers will clean off marine growth before structural repairs and upgrades, with the pontoon due back for Opening Day in early September.
The Short-handed Sailing Association of New Zealand got the SSANZ Lewmar Triple Series underway in sunny conditions, with division wins going to Attitude, Motorboat III, Drinks Trolley, Satellite, Go, Wasted Away, Sham Pain, Blackout, Hot Gossip, Arrogant Frog, Starmaker and Livewire. Race 2 is scheduled for 25 July.
Richmond Yacht Club has congratulated Jeremy Cope and the Time Out crew on the club champion title, with additional awards recognising racing results, contributions and perseverance across the year.
A Red Cross Psychological First Aid course at Milford Cruising Club on 19 June brought together club members alongside representatives from the Milford Residents Association, Pupuke Birdsong Project, Auckland Emergency Management and other community groups. The session covered practical ways to support people in distress during personal or large-scale emergencies, with Red Cross facilitating at no cost.
Ponsonby Cruising Club has elected its 2026/27 committee, with Grant MacDuff as commodore, Rob Algie as vice commodore and Laura Lowther as rear commodore. Colin Sykes takes on the presidency, with Dianne Billings as secretary and Tania Nigh as treasurer.
Waikawa Boating Club is calling for registrations for the Gela Skincare Waikawa Women's Regatta on 12 to 13 September 2026, featuring two divisions, a Taste of Marlborough raft-up and guest speaker Olympic gold medallist Jenny Armstrong.
On 4 July, Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club hosts more than 25 Ghost Divers from Wellington and Rotorua for a marina clean-up, with club members asked to support shore-based operations and welcome the team from 6pm.
Nominations are open for the Bunnings Warehouse Coaching Legends programme, which recognises volunteer coaches at Yachting New Zealand-affiliated clubs. Weekly and monthly awards build toward the national Coaching Legend of the Year, with a $25,000 prize going to the winner's club.
