Integrel E Power series pulls electricity from propulsion engines, ditching the genset

2 min read

For many powerboat owners, the hum of a standalone generator has long been an accepted part of life aboard. The Integrel E Power 15/30kW series takes direct aim at that compromise, offering a fundamentally different approach to onboard power generation that draws energy from the propulsion engines themselves rather than from a separate unit running alongside them.

The system works through the engine's power take off (PTO), capturing surplus capacity that would otherwise go to waste and converting it into usable electrical output. The E Power 15 SE model is designed for single engine installations of up to 1000hp, producing up to 15kW of electrical power, while the E Power 30 DE configuration doubles that output to 30kW when fitted to twin engine vessels with engines up to 1000hp each. Compatibility extends across a broad range of engine sizes, from 150hp through to 1000hp, which opens the system to a wide variety of modern powerboats.

Because the Integrel system generates electricity directly from the propulsion engines while the vessel is underway, the need for a dedicated genset is removed entirely. Fuel consumption and emissions both fall compared with conventional generator setups, and the reduction in onboard noise and vibration makes for a noticeably more pleasant experience aboard. Eliminating the standalone generator also frees up meaningful space in the engine room and reduces overall weight, advantages that matter whether the installation is on a new build or a retrofit project.

Operation is fully automatic, and the system integrates with contemporary onboard electrical infrastructure, handling the energy demands of air conditioning, refrigeration, navigation electronics, and entertainment systems without requiring manual management from the crew.

For powerboat owners who want genuine energy independence at sea without the complexity and constant background noise of a traditional generator, the Integrel E Power 15/30 series is built around a straightforward principle: efficiency through simplicity.

The Integrel E Power range is available in New Zealand through Sopac.
