Fisheries managers opened the floor to public feedback a fortnight ago, inviting submissions on proposed intertidal closures and adjustments to recreational daily limits, following last month's announcement of a review into recreational shellfish harvesting rules in the area amid persistent concerns about over-harvesting.
By Tuesday morning, Fisheries had confirmed to RNZ that 368 submissions had been received, with the public feedback period set to close on 12 June.
The review comes in the wake of a recent government decision, made at the request of iwi Ngāti Manuhiri, to ban the taking of several species from the Whangaparāoa Peninsula, Kawau Bay, and Ōmaha Bay.
