Hundreds of sails fill Waitemata as 2025 PIC Coastal Classic gets underway

1 min read

Perfect spring conditions greeted the 2025 PIC Coastal Classic as hundreds of sails filled the Waitematā under brilliant skies. From the first warning signals through to the final start at 10 a.m., the harbour came alive with colour and competitive energy across a series of rolling starts.

Divisions 4, 5, 8 and Solo were first to get away, setting the tone for what followed as the larger fleets of Divisions 2 and 3 took their turn on the start line. The heavyweights came last, with Divisions 1, 6 and 7 rounding out the sequence and sending the most powerful boats charging north.

From ExMachina to Lucky, every crew worked hard for clean air and a good start, knowing those early moments can shape an entire race. The PIC Coastal Classic media team was out on the water throughout, capturing the spectacle as New Zealand's great race north got underway.
